Improving Equity in Access to Palliative Care
Palliative care is not end-of-life care. It is life-affirming care that improves quality of life, helps reduce suffering, and supports people with dignity.
About the Program
This initiative is part of a national project led by Healthcare Excellence Canada and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. Safe 'N Sound and our community partners are one of 23 groups across the country working to improve access to palliative care.
Locally, we are supported by the Grey Bruce Ontario Health Team and other community organizations. Our focus is person-centered care—meeting people where they’re at and walking alongside them.
Why This Program Matters
Many people living with a life-limiting illness face unfair barriers to accessing care. These include those who are unhoused, living in poverty, Indigenous, or who have substance use disorders.
This program supports individuals who are often left out of traditional palliative care systems. Together, we're working to change that.
Who This Program Helps
We support people living in Grey, Bruce, and Owen Sound who are facing serious illness and also:
-
Are homeless or vulnerably housed
-
Live in poverty
-
Are Indigenous
-
Have a substance use disorder
-
Struggle to access health care
Everyone living with a life-limiting illness deserves care, compassion, and dignity.
